Neuromuscular Respiratory Failure
Bedside trajectory assessment, respiratory mechanics, bulbar function, airway timing, and disease-specific immunotherapy in acute neuromuscular crisis.
An educational representation of clinical reasoning, not a diagnostic algorithm or personalized medical advice — always apply clinical judgment and institutional protocols.
Caution
Escalate — Red Flags & Critical Warnings
- Avoid succinylcholine in GBS and other denervation states because receptor up-regulation can cause severe hyperkalemia. Myasthenia gravis has different neuromuscular-blocker pharmacology; dose non-depolarizing agents cautiously.
- Normal ABG does NOT rule out impending neuromuscular collapse — intubate based on FVC trajectory and bulbar failure, not PaO2/PaCO2.
