ATS — An Update on Management of Adult Patients with Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome

The 2024 ATS update conditionally supports corticosteroids for ARDS, VV-ECMO in selected severe ARDS, neuromuscular blockade in selected early severe ARDS, and higher PEEP without prolonged recruitment maneuvers in moderate-to-severe ARDS; it strongly recommends against prolonged lung recruitment maneuvers. Low tidal-volume ventilation and prolonged prone positioning remain foundational recommendations from the prior ATS/ESICM/SCCM guideline.
