NCS TBI Neuroprognostication 2024 — Guidelines for Neuroprognostication in Critically Ill Adults with Moderate-Severe Traumatic Brain Injury
Neurocritical Care Society, 2024
Neuroprognostication after moderate-severe TBI should integrate the complete clinical condition rather than a single early variable, explicitly acknowledge uncertainty, and avoid nihilistic ultra-early prognostication. The guideline suggests at least 3 days of full support before prognosis based only on early injury characteristics, and when feasible 1-2 weeks of support may be appropriate because meaningful uncertainty often persists.
