AHA CVT 2024 — Diagnosis and Management of Cerebral Venous Thrombosis: A Scientific Statement From the American Heart Association
American Heart Association, 2024
Updates the 2011 AHA statement. Cerebral venous thrombosis accounts for 0.5% to 3% of all strokes and is diagnosed mainly by MR/CT venography; death or dependence occurs in 10% to 15% of patients despite intensive medical treatment. The statement reviews the evidence for anticoagulation and for endovascular therapy, considers craniectomy, and gives an algorithm for patients who deteriorate neurologically or show thrombus propagation despite maximal medical therapy. It is a scientific statement rather than a graded guideline, so it does not assign recommendation classes.
