AASLD ALF Update — AASLD Position Paper: The Management of Acute Liver Failure — Update 2011
American Association for the Study of Liver Diseases, 2012
Suspected acute liver failure warrants early referral/transfer to a liver-transplant center. N-acetylcysteine is standard for acetaminophen-associated ALF; evidence for non-acetaminophen ALF is strongest for transplant-free survival in selected early encephalopathy. Prognostic tools such as King's College Criteria support, but do not replace, serial transplant-team assessment.
